Frankly, I’m offended. This is not an accurate representation in the slightest…I mean, come one…you show multiple needles. Do you really think a junkie like America could afford more than one old, oft shared, needle?
The rest of the world wishes they could do this. America’s power and prosperity are built on cheap energy. We need to encourage (short term) coal, oil, nukes, and ultimately solar, the only real long term energy source. This cheap and easy sneering cartoon masks the energy poverty of Europe, China, and India. Europe’s wealth profile matches that of Alabama and Mississippi, our two poorest states. China and India are much worse. The rest of the world can only match us if energy is cheap for everybody. An equality of poverty simply circles the drain down to eco destruction and gigadeaths across the least wealthy areas. Three billion Africans and Asians will die before Europe or America really feels it. Is that what you are hoping for?
Actually, Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway Luxembourg, and Ireland all currently have a higher GDP per capita than USA, while lacking the same level of addiction.
Bruce — the assertion that Europe is poor is one of the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. Try looking at the GDP of the EU … or China for that matter … and then look at debt those nations carry.

Whilst this image is a crude interpretation of Americas dependency on oil, it does in fact make some genuine arguments in relation to the similarities a heroine addict shares with current day America.
E.g one of the main reasons for invading iraq was believed to be for the oil, just like an addict doing anything to feed its hunger.
Or it could just be a poor illustration of some dude in American clothes smoking LOL barrels of oil.

I think that’s a disgusting representation of America. The rest of the world pays through the nose for oil because their countries tax the hell out of it. Europe has the equivalent of our proposed cap and trade bill.
Energy equals production while production equals wealth and wealth for a nation equals prosperity as a nation. A lot of things throughout our daily lives is possible through oil. So while we’re continuing the use of oil, we should also research other viable options for energy that are efficient and cheap.
