The woman is actually protesting for gay rights, and probably more specifically for gay marriage.

First, notice that she’s holding a rainbow flag. Second, notice the stickers and pins that say “I agree with the SJC”, the SJC being the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts which found in favor of gay marriage.

So, the comment about Alan Turing is intended to be ironic in the sense that Turing made enormous contributions to fighting Nazism and by extension computing. Most certainly over the heads of most members of the Religious Wrong and apparently over the heads of some Redditers, too…

“There’s always a danger in trying to be ironic in politics or submitting that irony without preparatory explanation to Reddit: The woman is actually protesting for gay rights, and probably more specifically for gay marriage.

  4. tea on December 18th, 2009 1:11 pm

how’d you make the sign, dumbass?

  5. Kachic on December 18th, 2009 2:22 pm

I don’t know if you also noticed the “I Agree with the SJC” sticker on this sign?? It means this sign is being very sarcastic, and she is protesting for equal rights for Gay couples. Do a Google search of “I Agree with the SJC”

    Irony win.

This post was mentioned on Reddit by yellowcoward: Gee, the rainbow flag would imply she doesn’t oppose homosexuality….so yes?

BTW, Turing was, in fact, totally gay….

I thought the fact she wants to destroy computers, yet lists a url on the sign was priceless as well

  9. AttackTribble on December 22nd, 2009 3:37 pm

The sad thing is, a lot of neocons will believe she means what’s on the sign, and possibly agree with the sentiment, if not the suggested action.

    shopped.

  11. Manhattan on December 22nd, 2009 5:11 pm

Unfortunately this will go right over the head of anyone anti-gay marriage.

  12. Josh Jones on December 24th, 2009 8:25 pm

    2 Things.

    It is photo-shopped.
The protest is definitely anti homo though.

  13. dd on December 24th, 2009 8:29 pm

    satire.

  14. Roos on December 24th, 2009 8:47 pm

Yeah Turing was gay, contributed massively to the WW2 effort and was chemically castrated for his efforts by the British Government. He then committed suicide. Aren’t we forward-thinking in Europe?!

…….ok not agreeing with the woman here but yeah…it is a good use of “irony”
though really the persons the picket sign is meant for REALLY aren’t going to squint to pick out the tiny details…they’re supposed to be witty one-liners or short sweet to the point statements….you could actually counter-produce your fight…..

    just saying….

  16. Greg on December 24th, 2009 11:58 pm

@Arctor - The SJC is actually the Social Justice Committee… fyi

  18. simplistik on December 25th, 2009 12:10 am

  19. Zala Wajik on December 25th, 2009 2:17 pm

  21. alin1212 on December 27th, 2009 8:05 pm

I think that woman is fuckin’ retarded. Like all the retards that give a tumbs up to this thing and who now, think, that Alan Turing invented the computer by himself. Unbelievable. 2012 .. pleasee pleasee, come quickly.

  22. Dane on December 28th, 2009 2:32 am

Win, this sigh should be on a laptop for extra win.

  23. Paul on December 29th, 2009 12:47 am

She is such a homo for using a computer to make that sign.

  24. K. Aning on January 6th, 2010 10:52 am

I believe the objective of the placard is lost if you have to think this hard to actually get that it’s being ironic. That was not the first message I got from the sign. But maybe that’s just me

  25. none ya biz on January 13th, 2010 7:36 pm

    i want to kill myself

  26. Jimmy on April 13th, 2010 10:24 pm

I cannot believe how stupid some of the previous comments are…

Is it really that hard to understand!

  27. Trym on April 27th, 2010 8:34 am

The writing on the sign looks like it has been made on a computer…
