Anime originated in Oriental countries, so of course its gonna be made in the image of azn ppl, who have “slit eyes” (not trying to be racist, wat do i call them?). This toy is racist becuz it implies that ull be azn if u have slit eyes.
Ans i TOTALLY agree that it looks like vagina glasses, lolol
i had an 87-year-old professor in college who insisted that the term “oriental” was an acceptable utterance.
i’m counting the days until he’s dead

BIG- How is calling someone Oriental a racist term? It’s only implying that the person is from the Orient. I’m Chinese and I don’t care if someone calls me Oriental. It’s just a name, as long as they’re not meaning it in a derogatory way then I don’t care.

well, in england and such - they call indians/middle easterns as “Asian” - while they prefer to refer East Asia, countries such as Japan, China, Korea as “Oriental” =/

The professor probably didn’t accept the term “oriental” because it’s implication is not relevant worldwide. Oriental as an adjective means east, and that only applies to the western world, i.e. Americans.

@BIG (ref Bumblefly) - And the Orient is the East. Oriental = Eastern. For example, the official name of Uruguay is “Republica Oriental del Uruguay”. This is because Uruguay is east of the Uruguay River. Here’s the Wikipedia article on Orient to help you out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orient
So, Bumblefly, being Chinese, is Oriental. Whereas I’m Occidental, since I’m and American of European descent. Of course, race has been shown to not actually exist and I would only use these terms to refer to a person’s cultural heritage; so if Bumblefly is of Chinese descent but grew up in the UK and knows little to nothing of Chinese culture, then I would say Occidental is the correct term.

I don’t think its that racist. There are similar glasses with ’round’ eyes - does that mean its being racist towards Westerners? I think people should get over there differences and lighten up. However, if someone decided to wear these ‘chop suey’ glasses and acted racistly against asians, then its not the glasses that are the problem, its the fool wearing them!

Yeah, actually it was probably made some some idiot American who bought a company in China for cheap labor to make idiotic shit like this.
Astro - “Racist my ass…..it’s a toy for crying out loud.”
So what’s your point? It mocks an entire race of people and stereotypes their appearance. If that’s not racism, what is? There are many, many ways of transmitting racism. Some people just aren’t smart enough to catch ‘em all, and it’s those things that sneak by our radars that really perpetuate it through our belief system.

to the anoymos post on the origin of anime:
Actually they model the anime after WESTERN CULTURE, not themselves.Do your research. Larger eyes tend to be innocents or children, or at least good guys. The smaller narrow eyes are reserved for villains, anti-heroes and old people.
this is all a generality, there are exceptions.

Hey Jessica, the problem is the so call differences are just stereotypes, and not real differences. Its like saying you are slut and then telling you, hey its ok to be different and be a slut, let’s celebrate our non-slutty and slutty differences.
And astro is a cowardly racist, so is the dude below him.
The toy is not racist, but some of the idiots here (like balless astro) are.
