Here’s A Nickel

I just love imagining the thought process behind this. “Surely this’ll work, no?”

The letter actually got though! when they got it it had all the change still on it (minus the extra nickel) and was covered in “return to sender” and “postage appended” stamps… fairly bad condition but it got through none the less!

This did work 30 years ago, at least out in the country. You could use a clothespin to attached the money for the stamp and the postal worker would handle it back at the post office.

Working as a US Postal employee, I’ve seen a few letters similar to this. It’s completely insulting. If there’s quarters I’ll take them and throw the letter in with the rest of the incoming mail, it will get mailed back to the return address. If it’s less then that I just throw the letter in the trash. The coins will fuck up our equipment and it’s not worth my time trying to get the coins off with out tearing the envelope.

“If it’s less then that I just throw the letter in the trash.”

    And that’s illegal.

A 41 cents less than twice the quarters why mail it anyway. The total cost is an inverse variation of a US Postal employee’s paid and time.

Steve, you’re an embarrassment to society. If you can’t handle doing your job and upholding the law at the same time, go work at McDonald’s, you failure.

he actually had the nickel taped up above with the rest of the coins. You can see the imprint of another coin that resembles the shape and size of the nickel.

    funny.

Dealing with garbage (unstamped envelopes) that people put in mailboxes is probably not part of Steve’s job.

Steve, hang in there buddy. You might be able to retire before the Post Office implodes. But that kind of behavior will certainly speed it up.

Now I’ve got to hop over to my banking site and pay some bills ONLINE.

    :-)

I’m a rural carrier in a small town. I get this all the time. I take off the coins and put on a stamp. Many times there is no money. I put on a stamp and leave a note. I’ve never been shorted. They always put the money in the box for me later. Many times I’ve saved them credit card penalties. The way I look at it the next time I make a mistake with their mail, they will have a hard time complaining. BTW–a carrier throwing away a letter is a federal felony. I hope you enjoy Levenworth KS.

Holy crap - I know this guy. He lived in North Hall at Drexel University

Used to tape coins to envelopes all teh time when we lived out in the country. The mail always got through even though I never left a tip.

Here’s what you should do STEVE, instead of commiting a federal crime, leave unstamped mail IN THE FUCKING BOX! This picture is blatant disregard for the proper procedure on mailing a letter, but if you just didn’t put the right stamp or forgot to put one, it doesn’t mean it’s garbage!!!!!!!!

    * BY THE WAY … *
*ANY POSTAL EMPLOYEE* throwing away a letter is a federal felony.

SO , MY QUESTION IS ..
HOW COME YOU STILL WORK FOR THE P.O. ??
WHEN I GOT LAID OFF FOR READING
” GUNS and AMMO” on my LUNCH BREAK ???

    Adorable :D

I used to do this all the time growing up, out in the country. Everybody did. You’d put the mail out with the correct postage or a dollar, the postal worker would stamp it for you and leave change. All for 13 cents. Nobody complained. Nobody shorted anyone. It worked great.
Now you have to go into a post office, burn up $5 worth of gas getting there, stand in line for who knows how long to be treated rudely, and hope they don’t mess up. Lord knows I’ve gotten enough mail not meant for me to wonder if it’s going to make it or not.
Like someone else said, this is why I pay every bill I can online.
