    Oh so special.

I wonder if they trim the sleeves off their shirts and the legs off their pants whenever they want shorts. That’s what those nice seam lines are for, right?

    Wow. Just…wow.

  11. Help on June 19th, 2008 2:38 pm

I think you’re meant to take the fan (the black circle) off and put it inside the CD tray. That will make it work.

  12. hitman454 on June 19th, 2008 2:39 pm

Dell machines are proprietary, you cannot just add anything to them. The card may not have worked anyway. I haven’t however seen any video cards that you have to “cut”. The most I have ever done to fabricate one is adding a better GPU fan or removing the fan shroud for better circulation.

AGP Pro 4x or some such craziness. Different signaling voltage. Motherboards that support it are getting harder to find these days. Let it go because man. it’s gone.

  18. d on June 19th, 2008 3:55 pm

    hitman454:
Dells machines are not “proprietary” they still use standards like PCI, PCIe, SATA, IDE…Just because your particular Dell does not handle the particular card does not mean that the computer is proprietary.

Anyway, i’d buy the card from him for $10 and solder it to piggyback on another connector :)

  19. joe on June 19th, 2008 3:56 pm

Come on you guys lighten up. We all started out not knowing much about computers. At least this person is asking for help from people like you who been through it all. To bad the”fiend ” didn’t know better or if did shame on them for giving such bad info to someone who was trying to learn.
Next time go on-line and read before trying to install something new..

  26. Alex on June 20th, 2008 4:44 am

Unfortunately, even NASA makes these type of mistakes. This is an example of not reading the instructions or as we all are aware, poor documentation.Common sense is not so common, after all.

To Kai: Um, you fail. Try fourteenth

  34. /dev/null on June 25th, 2008 7:37 am

“You don’t cut squat, you just pop it in the correct spot and there you have it not cutting involved!”

Granted, it’s not cutting, but the 8800GTX you have to unscrew and remove the damn annoying “handle” at the end so it’ll fit!
My point: sometimes things don’t “just fit ™”.

  42. DeZwarteMaan on October 20th, 2008 12:14 pm

Hrm.. What we have here is a Listening to idioitis.. rare case of doing what others tell you without researching. We have common names for this practice. ID-10T error and Electrostatic between the chair and keyboard syndrome.

Okay.. What you have to do is first turn the machine off.
Next Plug the card back in and submerge the machine into salt water tank
Reach and and hit the power button.

That should solve the issue… :D

No you cannot fix the card, unless you have some skills as an ectrical engineer and experience with fabing greenboards. Which.. considering you cut the leads.. I’ll assume you dont.

Good luck paying for a new one! :)
