People should stop looking for controversy where there is none.

  2. No Thanks on April 27th, 2008 4:14 pm

Yeah, because if it really was a black kid’s desk, it’d either be covered with graffiti, or it’d be colored pink and day-glo orange.

    (Yes, I am joking!)

  3. noneneeded on April 27th, 2008 4:45 pm

I think its beautiful that the person writing the description didn’t even think of it like you did.

  4. amazing on April 27th, 2008 4:45 pm

Check it out. They’ve already changed the name. Now it’s the “Kool Kolors Computer Desk - Classic Black”.

Three consecutive words that start with Cs, two of which have been replaced with Ks? Did Target really change the name of the Black Kid’s Computer Desk to the KKK Desk in Classic Black?

  5. Racist Liberals on April 27th, 2008 5:32 pm

Liberals are insane passive aggressive racists who promote offensive racism where there is none.

There are maybe 100 people in the world who are KKK members. They are marginal and don’t matter. Putting them on TV or pointing to their web pages makes them seem important when they are nothing, have no power, and influence nothing.

Liberals should help fix real problems in the world instead of magnifying stupid fantasy problems. Yeah, call 100 idiot KKK guys names and talk about how you are superior to them instead of actually improving educational standards, reducing neighborhood crime, or increasing the level of civilization.

Target is selling products. They are not covert racists and have no agenda you great saviors of humanity need to oppose.

Please focus on solving real problems of importance instead of promoting your usual nonsensical distractions.

We all know black kid’s can’t afford desks…

  10. What?? on April 27th, 2008 5:53 pm

    WHAT???
    I don’t see 3 consecutive words starting with C or K.

  11. Adam Singer on April 27th, 2008 5:59 pm

they changed it - you totally should have taken a screengrab

  12. Davey Boyd on April 27th, 2008 6:19 pm

“People should stop looking for controversy where there is none.”

Wise words my friend! Just go onto Digg.com or watch TV and you’ll see endless stories of hoping to be controversial, when really its not.

  13. cpuenvy on April 27th, 2008 6:41 pm

I agree. And like was also pointed out here, “People should stop looking for controversy where there is none.”

If it said White Kids Computer Desk, or Pink Kids Computer Desk, I doubt anyone would think differently. This is the BS that creates problems. You should not try so hard to find an issue where there is no issue.

This reminds me of the black couch article with the tag “Negro” which means black in Chinese, I believe. Yay, we have progressed past blatant Whites Only bathrooms, to using a play on words to make it racism. MLK would be proud!

  14. boofo on April 27th, 2008 7:41 pm

well, dont forget that kool cigarettes have historically been marketed straight to black folks.

  15. seymour on April 27th, 2008 8:44 pm

The first version merely tells me that Target are cheap shits who really should hire a copywriter and sub

  16. WOW on April 27th, 2008 9:09 pm

    I’m a white kid… and I have this desk!!!!
    seriously

  18. wtr on April 27th, 2008 11:03 pm

What’s wrong with targeting a specific demographic?

    (black KIDDING)(black KIDDING)(black KIDDING)(black KIDDING)

  19. Kristoffer on April 27th, 2008 11:38 pm

    I don’t see an e-machine on it…

  20. This Is Unfortunate on April 28th, 2008 2:15 am

Why is it unfortunate? It is, in fact, a black, kid’s computer desk. If a stupid wank such as yourself wishes to read it as something it isn’t, then THAT is unfortunate.

Besides, Target has every right to market computer desks to black kids.

  21. songboom.com on April 28th, 2008 4:53 am

I think it works for white kids too.

  22. Da Professor on April 28th, 2008 6:10 am

Since no-one has mentioned it, the correct grammar is “Kid’s Blacks Computer Desk”.

  23. mark on April 28th, 2008 6:25 am

I’m gonna buy a couple. It’s really nice looking and reasonably priced.

  24. DetroitGuy on April 28th, 2008 5:32 pm

    “Dat’s sum racist sheet!”

No. The problem is the apostrophe. That is all.

  25. 1duck on April 29th, 2008 3:57 am

“This reminds me of the black couch article with the tag “Negro” which means black in Chinese”

hahahaha oh god i’ve heard it all now.

  26. lolerskates on April 30th, 2008 2:18 am

at least teh black kids GET a desk.. better than the floor.

  27. sparkplug49 on April 30th, 2008 5:25 am

for all you “looking for controversy where there is none” people … I completely agree … if we would just stick to tried and true traditions … black kids get separate desks from white kids and everyone (that matters) will be happy

and for those of you too serious to get that this is a humor website … i am completely joking … the rest of the world has moved passed these issues and are comfortable enough to joke about them

  28. jeewhizzzzzzz on April 30th, 2008 8:31 pm

    This is not racially insensitive.

What would make it racially insensitive would be to add “it’s a steal!” or “for checking MySpace.”

  29. Ri on May 1st, 2008 1:11 am

It took me a couple of minutes to figure out what the controversy was. Maybe because I’m Canadian? Seriously though, it is a black desk for kids, so why not call it a black kids desk. I agree with the first comment.

  30. jm on May 3rd, 2008 9:36 am

Ri: proper English would dictate it is a kid’s black desk. The desk is black, its meant for kids. Black kid’s desk implies the desk is for black kids. Target probably outsourced the writing to China, which is where the desk wa probably made.

  31. WryBeauty on May 6th, 2008 11:07 pm

I’m a black kid and I have this desk…although I bought it from a garage sale and I (@ No thanks) have spray painted a pink and silver graffiti design on it.

  32. Artur on May 7th, 2008 2:38 pm

Its just a stupid typo I’m a liberal and don’t see the big deal. Target isn’t being insensitive they just didn’t check it before they put it up. Stop making this about race its a fucking typo.

  33. wow on May 10th, 2008 8:47 am

    5. 100 kkk members in the world? are you kidding dude really? WAY more than 100, have you ever been to alabama?

  34. han on May 11th, 2008 6:24 pm

yeah it looks like its racist, we all know its not meant to be, but these comments are fuckin funny.

and um, @Da Professor “Since no-one has mentioned it, the correct grammar is ‘Kid’s Blacks Computer Desk”

it would be kids BLACK computer desk.

if you think your so smart, you should probably double check your spelling.

  35. i agree on May 16th, 2008 10:24 pm

I’m with number 33. I don’t think no. 5 has been very far south (if at all). You might have 100 KKK members at one rally but as a whole there are plenty more. You should stop by Georgia some time. I also agree with the others, this is a humor site, not a debate on liberals. Chill out!

  36. IdiotsAmongUs on May 19th, 2008 1:54 pm

This is the most ridiculous thread ever!!

…and to #34 that tried to be smart and cool and correct another person: it’s “you’re” not “your”. It’s not HIS so smart, he’s the one you are referring to. Your improper grammar placed the possession in the wrong place in your sentence. (You see how stupid you made yourself look, and how I used proper grammar to demonstrate that?)

  37. blep on June 14th, 2008 6:08 am

    #36 - epic

    #34 - epic fail

  38. voice'o'reason on June 14th, 2008 1:52 pm

People, seriously. Lighten the hell up. It was supposed to be a midly amusing grammatical gaff (they wanted to indicate that they were selling a kid’s desk that was black, but instead suggested that it was a desk marketed towards black kids). As contributors to a “comments” section, I’m sure we’re all acutely aware of how funny grammtical and syntactical errors are (see the “your/you’re” controversy above).

Why has this conversation devolved into a discussion of how many active members of the KKK there are?

  39. blahblahblah on June 16th, 2008 12:19 am

    Wow guys… Touchy much.

In case you missed it, this was a joke. I didn’t see people running around talking about how Target was zomgz racist 4 reelz!

Suddenly you have people jumping around talking about liberals, and being over-sensitive, and the active membership of the KKK.

But since apparently people want to argue about this:

No. Racism is not “over”. Not by a long shot. Sorry to bust your Utopian bubbles.

Is the ad racist? Nah, but it was good for a laugh at Target’s expense. Which was the point of posting it.

Talk about creating controversy where there is none…

  40. Oh look - a black kid on July 1st, 2008 10:05 pm

Anyone who got offended at this is a Grade A number 1 over-sensitive thin-skinned whiny baby that really needs a life and quit looking for racism where it doesn’t exist.

  41. Ryan on July 23rd, 2008 12:49 am

Wow some people need to learn how to take jokes. Geez lighten up seriously

  42. cindy on August 16th, 2008 10:04 pm

WOW i have the exact same desk.

  43. twrexx on September 2nd, 2008 3:58 pm

all i have to say regards the posts rather than the topic:

    1) negro means “black” in SPANISH, not Chinese. Oh my God, really? You thought that was Chinese?

    2) the moron that made a reference to Alabama and inferrring it is brimming with racists…grow up . Ive seen more racism in the northern US than in MISSISSIPPI where I live(which is next to ALabama for the troll about to point out the inane comment that he didnt mention MS). You arent helping stereotypes yourself.
