  7. Magg5788 on August 19th, 2008 2:27 pm

The sign is taking up the entire bike lane.

  8. duh on August 19th, 2008 2:29 pm

It’s in the bike lane, blocking the very bike traffic that it’s announcing.

  9. YourMomsMom on August 19th, 2008 2:29 pm

The sign is blocking the bike lane forcing bikes closer to traffic?

  10. newgrl on August 19th, 2008 2:30 pm

The sign is actually **in** the bike lane. It’s a hindrance to any bike riders who might come along.

  11. jimbo on August 19th, 2008 2:31 pm

It’s funny because the sign is in the bike lane therefore forcing the cyclists into the road.

  12. bif zamboni on August 19th, 2008 2:31 pm

The sign is right in the path the bike riders are supposed to take.

  13. Chango on August 19th, 2008 2:33 pm

    Sign’s in the bike lane.

  17. blah on August 19th, 2008 2:40 pm

The sign is in the bike lane, which forces bikers closer to the road, which is the purpose the sign exists, to warn drivers. It’s ironic humor at it’s finest.

  18. - on August 19th, 2008 2:42 pm

ah… the sign is smack in the middle of the bike lane… funny…

  19. Robin on August 19th, 2008 2:42 pm

The sign is in the bike lane. Blocking bike traffic.

  20. YourDad on August 19th, 2008 2:43 pm

Ummm, Mom the sign is in the middle of the bike path. This forces the bike riders to go around the sign and into traffic.

    Dad

  21. YouDad on August 19th, 2008 2:46 pm

It’s in the bike lane moron.

  22. your dad on August 19th, 2008 2:47 pm

It’s in the bike lane… the cars only have to watch for bikes because bikes must swerve to avoid the “watch for bikes” sign.

  23. iGetIt on August 19th, 2008 2:47 pm

(The very sign meant to protect bicyclist in traffic is blocking the bike lane, forcing them into traffic)

  24. got it from reddit on August 19th, 2008 2:50 pm

its right on the bike lane ..effectively in the way of bikers

  25. Rash on August 19th, 2008 2:51 pm

The ‘watch for bikes’ sign is in the BIKE lane, causing an inconvenience to riders, and subjecting them to even further risk.

  26. Ryan on August 19th, 2008 2:52 pm

They put a “watch for bikes” sign right in the bike lane. so now the bikes have to go closer to the road.

  27. Your Dad on August 19th, 2008 2:53 pm

If they had a huge sign blocking the whole road that said “watch for cars” you’d probably get it.

  28. matt on August 19th, 2008 2:58 pm

Hey Yourmom, the “Watch for Bikes” sign is taking up the entire bike lane.

  29. brian on August 19th, 2008 2:58 pm

  31. imp on August 19th, 2008 3:02 pm

    umm…well…

the sign says watch for bikes..

    ironic much?

    stop cheesing your mom!! haha

  32. Patrick on August 19th, 2008 3:04 pm

Right in the bike lane. Ironic.

  33. YourDad on August 19th, 2008 3:05 pm

It’s in the middle of the freakin’ bike lane forcing cyclist to move towards traffic.

  34. random person on August 19th, 2008 3:08 pm

The sign is telling the vehicles to watch for bikes, but it’s in the bike lane, forcing the bikers to get closer to the moving vehicles than they normally would.

  35. heyho on August 19th, 2008 3:12 pm

It’s sort of in the bike lane…

  36. Dude on August 19th, 2008 3:12 pm

The sign is blocking the bike lane.

  37. anon on August 19th, 2008 3:14 pm

@YourMom: The “watch for bikes” sign is blocking the bike lane, forcing bikes to swerve into the car lanes, thus making the drivers have to watch for bikes.

  38. scoot on August 19th, 2008 3:15 pm

well, I’ll try to explain. They placed the “watch for bikes” giant sign right smack in the bike lane, which would cause any bikes to swerve into traffic to go around the “watch for bikes sign”
which begs the question: would you really have to do so much watching out for bikes if that sign were never put there?

  39. Your Dad on August 19th, 2008 3:16 pm

What don’t you get, that the “Watch for Bikes” sign, that is supposed to be there for SAFETY, forces bicyclists into traffic to avoid it??

  40. The guy who did your mom on August 19th, 2008 3:17 pm

Umm…. It’s **IN** the bike lane? What’s not to get?

  41. John Laidlaw on August 19th, 2008 3:18 pm

    Brilliant, just (censored) brilliant!
We want drivers to be aware of bikes in the bike lane - so we put up a protable sign. But departmental standards require that it be set “as far to the right as possible”, and no-one, but no-one, noted this put it right in the middle of the bike lane it was supposed to be protecting!
It’s obvious the men that sited it are NOT, most emphatically, cyclists themselves.
I’d rather just have the lane, and take my chances. Only too often does someone get injured - not by a foe, but a friend, who’s “only trying to help”.

  42. Eric on August 19th, 2008 3:19 pm

    It’s in the bike lane…

  43. inno on August 19th, 2008 3:21 pm

Sigh… the sign is in the bike lane. So anybody on a bike would have to go around the sign, coming dangerously close to the freeway traffic - hence the sign, by its mere presence creates the very condition that it is there to warn about. This situation, in some circles, is referred to as being “ironic”. Moran.

  44. Tactix on August 19th, 2008 3:22 pm

You really don’t get it? How about putting the sign in the bike line so they can get run over by cars…

  45. sukIT on August 19th, 2008 3:26 pm

  51. midoris on August 19th, 2008 3:38 pm

    @YourMom
the sign is blocking the bike lane…

  52. mike on August 19th, 2008 3:40 pm

Motorists wouldn’t have to watch for bikes if that big sign weren’t blocking the bike lane, forcing them into the road.

  53. YourDad on August 19th, 2008 3:40 pm

The sign is blocking the bike lane while reminding others to watch out for bikers

  54. John on August 19th, 2008 3:42 pm

The obstruction is causing the need for the sign in the first place. It’s in the middle of the bike lane. So bikes will need to diverge with traffic to get out of the way of the sign.

    Get it now?

  55. technopriestess on August 19th, 2008 3:44 pm

Sigh… the “Watch for Bikes” sign is IN the bike lane…

  56. fiddle on August 19th, 2008 3:44 pm

  59. N E on August 19th, 2008 3:47 pm

Nah, neither did until I spotted that great big sign was actually *in* the bike lane!

    Hilarity ensues. ;)

  60. Your Dad on August 19th, 2008 3:48 pm

The sign is in the bike lane forcing bikers to ride close to the car lane, creating humorous irony.

  61. Billy on August 19th, 2008 3:49 pm

  62. james on August 19th, 2008 3:51 pm

  67. ANON on August 19th, 2008 4:00 pm

AHA! The sign is in the bike lane! How clever!

  68. richard weed on August 19th, 2008 4:07 pm

WTF? I like the way the sign - telling folks to watch for bikes’ - blocks the dang bike lane! Is it a test of some sort; make cyclists swerve around the sign, and hope motorists read the sign - and obey it it at the same time.

    Too funny!

  69. Richard on August 19th, 2008 4:08 pm

Look closely, it’s blocking the bike lane.

    Later…
    Richard

  70. Peter S on August 19th, 2008 4:10 pm

the sign is in the bikes lane…

  71. YourDad on August 19th, 2008 4:16 pm

The sign is in the middle of the bike lane, which means the cyclists would have to swerve towards the automobile lanes to go around it. Basically the sign is causing more of a hazard than the motorists.

  72. Mephestopheles on August 19th, 2008 4:22 pm

Mom, the sign is blocking the bike lane.

  73. noob_above on August 19th, 2008 4:23 pm

  74. Jinno on August 19th, 2008 4:24 pm

    They’re doing it wrong.

  75. Dad on August 19th, 2008 4:25 pm

The sign is blocking the bike lane. It forces cyclists to ride around it.

(Of course, the bike lane/road lane has a large buffer zone, so it’s not forcing the cyclists to go into the roadway proper, but it’s still funny.)

  76. poopy_butt on August 19th, 2008 4:26 pm

The sign is blocking the bike lane, when they could have easily moved it to the left.

  77. Christian Rauh on August 19th, 2008 4:30 pm

WHOA, Whoa, whoa, whoa-wa… IS the sign in the bike lane?

  92. Imthedude on August 19th, 2008 6:12 pm

It’s funny because here we have, just above this comment,a hundred people “explaining the picture”,after the first one said “I don’t get it”!

  93. booger t. on August 19th, 2008 6:26 pm

It’s funny because there are no bikes in the picture.

  95. Bump on August 19th, 2008 6:46 pm

Wait, why is the sign in the bike lane?

  96. Brundy on August 19th, 2008 6:50 pm

I’ve read all the comments and I still don’t get it!`

  97. Ghoti on August 19th, 2008 6:52 pm

    Bike signs, they’re for lanes.

  98. whoa nelly on August 19th, 2008 6:54 pm

What’s REALLY funny about this, is that one guy at the beginning says “I don’t get it” and 50 people feel obligated to tell him that it’s funny because the sign is *in* the bike lane. That is irony.

  99. Captain Hatsworth Esq. on August 19th, 2008 7:03 pm

I believe the electronic signalling board is within the very thoroughfare whose traffic it is behoved to forewarn!

  100. goozu on August 19th, 2008 7:15 pm

It’s not funny cuz the sign is in the bike lane. Rather it is funny cuz it’s awkward to have a bike lane ON the HIGHWAY!!! Ay gooooooz

  101. Eric on August 19th, 2008 7:19 pm

It is funny because there is a sign for Dana Point beyond it which has a sail boat on it, even thought the road is going uphill.

Either that, or the Watch for Bikes sign is blocking the bike lane, but that’s standard practice so why would it be funny?

  102. Heli on August 19th, 2008 7:23 pm

Before anyone else comments that the sign is in the bike lane, I’d like to point out that one hundred people have ALREADY mentioned this!

  103. jericho on August 19th, 2008 7:30 pm

the sign is in the bike lane, that’s why it is funny man. sheesh.

  104. Harold on August 19th, 2008 7:31 pm

Is it just me, or is that electronic billboard blocking the very bike lane that it is supposed to be protecting?

  105. Patrick on August 19th, 2008 7:40 pm

At this point, I think we can safely say that Michael Phelps IS the bike lane.

  106. Orgh Breghaiheough on August 19th, 2008 8:02 pm

You’re all a bunch of Jessies. Looks like a highway, i.e. no pedestrians or bicycles (do you see any of either?). I’m guessing they’re referring to *motor*bikes.

  107. JW on August 19th, 2008 8:02 pm

The sign is blocking the bike lane.

  108. Orgh Breghaiheough on August 19th, 2008 8:06 pm

    What’s in the bike lane?

  112. CrakkaLuv on August 19th, 2008 8:51 pm

…so…what ya’ll saying is…the sign is IN the bike lane? Is that it? I don’t get it…where’s the bucket?

  113. Gandalf on August 19th, 2008 9:02 pm

why would they place that sign in the bike lane?

  114. dantebronto on August 19th, 2008 9:06 pm

When a sign and a bike lane love each other very much, they come together to make a signinabikelane.

  115. JP on August 19th, 2008 11:07 pm

The sign is in the bike lane. I wonder if someone moved the sign into the bike lane. Someone should really move that sign out of the bike lane. Perhaps that fat cop eating the turkey leg can move the sign out of the bike lane. As it is now, the sign is blocking the bikes.

  116. D on August 19th, 2008 11:54 pm

The sign is parked across the entire bike lane.

  117. anon on August 20th, 2008 1:58 am

When you see it you’ll shit bricks.

  118. jason on August 20th, 2008 2:59 am

Everybody missed the point. Its a euphemism describing the road blocks that we all face in life. And finding unique solutions to problems that we face everyday.

    :P

  119. crackhead on August 20th, 2008 3:31 am

The SIGN about watching for bikes is, um, in the bike lane, and that is blocking the bike traffic, so that’s, you know, kind of funny, I guess. Um, I think.

  120. M@ on August 20th, 2008 6:42 am

Obviously a case of “Do as I say, not as I do”…

    or…

    The complete message is:

    “Watch for bikes”

    - next page -

    “hitting this sign”

  121. Craig on August 20th, 2008 7:00 am

    but….I don’t see any bikes ??? wtf???

  122. HeywoodJablowme on August 20th, 2008 7:01 am

    It’s a typo.

Dana Point is a popular community for people who live “alternative lifestyles”.

It was supposed to have read: “Watch For Dikes”.

  123. Bike Lane on August 20th, 2008 8:02 am

    ===============SIGN=================== <- BIKE LANE

  124. Dad on August 20th, 2008 9:52 am

The reason that 50+ people responded to the question is that when we saw the question, there were zero (visible) responses. When we responded, we were told that our comment was awaiting moderation. And it looks like the moderation has come, bringing with it oodles of answers.

  125. BennyJ on August 20th, 2008 10:49 am

    easy:
    1. Bikes ride in Bike lanes
    2. courtesy sign tells cars to be polite and watch for bikes
    3. sign is a hypocrite for not following it’s own advice.

  126. Your Pappy on August 20th, 2008 11:06 am

If the bikes would just stay in there own lane then they wouldn’t need a sign. Stupid bikers.

  127. Whonose on August 20th, 2008 3:16 pm

    Huh? I don’t get it.

  128. Tim on August 20th, 2008 4:13 pm

You are all missing the point!!!!
The person(s) who unhooked the sign from city truck and placed the sign along the road was just doing their job, they probably don’t ride a bike and was a complete over sight, it happens!!! We as a group of cyclists, need be thankful that someone in the city of “X” has the forsite to place a warning sign to alert motorists about bicyclists on the road…

    Have a nice day!!!

  129. Pierre on August 21st, 2008 6:14 am

Come on! You don’t need to ever ride a bicycle to understand that the sign is a hazard in itself.

  130. Bjartur on August 22nd, 2008 7:13 am

Wowsers, best string of comments I’ve seen in a long time. Amazing how many different ways you can say “sign is in the bike lane”. Hehe, laughed alot at this one. Good job internet-swarm-of-idiots.

  136. Jeff on August 31st, 2008 5:53 am

LMAO I drove by this sign a couple of days ago (can’t recall) anyways I’m glad someone took a picture cause it made me laugh.

  137. Kate on September 1st, 2008 9:10 pm

It really pisses me off when someone blocks the bike lane, that’s MY lane, not just a convenient place to park.
