When Fascism Comes To America

The Grand Lake Theater in Oakland, CA has gained fame for using half of it’s Marquee to display political messages. Following the 2000 election owner Allen Michaan displayed a message saying “This Is America — Every Vote Should Be Counted”. Since then Michaan has regularly displayed messages save for a brief lapse between the midterm elections of November 2006 and January 2007.

Funny, I never noticed those messages when I walk by it.

This is one of the many reasons I favor the Grand Lake for movie viewing whenever I can. Not to mention that their main screen is awesome.

Ron Paul said this exact same thing on meet the press and the media GRILLED him for it BIG TIME. Every single station let Ron Paul have it when he said that. Sounds true now.

I love this quote because it’s right on target. This is such an important time in America’s history. We can either go down the drain, or reverse course. I believe strongly that Barack Obama is our chance to reverse course.

It’s a beautiful sentiment on a beautiful theater.

I strong believe Barack Obama, Clinton, and McCain will continue to take this country down the path of destruction.

Re: The Presidential Candidates - I pity you that you’ve fallen for Obama’s ruse. He’s an empty suit selling you false hope with the promise of free handouts and meaningless change. I dare you to find any substantive policy difference between him and Clinton.

The only candidate that represents real change in this country has been marginalized out of the race - Ron Paul.
    - End the war in Iraq now
    - Stop the debasement of the currency that is causing runaway inflation, by ending the Federal Reserve See - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/15/business/15consumer.html?ref=business
    - Restore the Constitution (Restore Habeus Corpus, repeal the Patriot Act)
    - Restore Accountability, by impeaching Bush and Cheney and the rest of their henchmen
    - End the war on drugs
    - End the IRS

    and that’s just for starters….

Yeah, Barack Obama isn’t ANYTHING like the other candidates. He’s black.

Obama is a candidate for the executive branch. He’s not the last chance for us to reverse ANYTHING. In a democracy, we must rely on the collective action of the body politic, not on a savior from above. The president actually has much less power than people think, unless he acts unconstitutionally as Bush did. The only way for Obama to get rid of the corporate control of our fed would be to work in cooperation with principled legislators. Down with the Pelosi and Clinton; up with Kucinich and Paul! Down with the cult of personality around Obama; up with collective action!

Religion is a horrible way to govern.

The only way to have them together is to give everyone the right to their own beliefs.

We had it and are slowly losing it.

Farsay, we’re not a Democracy, we’re a Constitutional Republic…or at least we were.

  • 13 Argnot // Apr 24, 2008 at 5:41 am

goddamn americans - always too damn serious…stop ranting and laugh dammit

  • 14 Laura // Apr 29, 2008 at 3:48 am

What is there to laugh about when we know our country is about to fall apart and there is nothing we can do?

Other countries hate us because they assume we agree with our government. Obviously you guys haven’t heard that the people have no power anymore.

    It isn’t funny at all.
