I did that once. I used a box fan and took the side of the case off.

I liked the last one which seems more comfortable and can be removed anytime when not needed ,so if i would like to fix the fan on my pc i would chose the last one ………
This is how you used too cool your over clocked cpu, this was pretty common before all you newbies came along. Nowadays most people have limited computer knowledge and use phrases like lolable.

i have the same game controller as the one in the first pic xD
ok off topic, sorryy.
anyhow.. you gotta do what ever it takes to keep tha pc cool
First pic is mine! It was a crappy machine I got for free from work, and I had no intention of spending any money on it, even when the CPU started to overheat constantly. That little fan came in real handy. Can you please post this comment?
I own the last computer with the air filter hook up.
As my friend Scott stated, I’m honored that someone added my pic to this site.
My goal was to keep the computer cool, clean and to spend the least amount of money as possible. In total I spent less than $40 dollars and achieved what I set out to accomplish.
The air filter when new was over $100 bucks, but I found it at a second hand store for $4.29. The pipes and connectors are from The Home Depot, and four internal fans from Fry’s.
120mm in the power supply, on the hard drives and 80mm on the CPU, ram and motherboard.
While I have nothing against water cooling, I found this form of cooling to work perfectly for me.
I no longer use this computer. I have upgraded to a laptop. I do plan at some point to use the air filter again to cool not just the laptop but through a system of pipes cool all my electronic components.
Not that weird. I’ve done this myself when my PC’s start going flaky and I want to find out if it’s cooling that’s the problem.
Plus some of us open our cases on a daily basis and don’t leave the sides/top/whatever on anyway.
Of course my current ‘game’ PC doesn’t have any cooling issues at all, as it’s built inside a 50’s-era frequency generator that’s completely louvered on all sides…
open the casing and using fan on room with ac (air conditioning)
i think good choice and simple…:-)

Why would anyone go to the trouble of opening up their computer and positioning a room fan on it and not take the other side off of the case so the air could actually blow through?

Just a warning. Positioning a magnet to close to a computer can really screw it up. Electric motors use magnets,so keep the fans at a distance

Actually, I have a box fan running on my computer right now! This summer was brutal, and my, otherwise fine, computer kept overheating.

That last one is actually an electronic air cleaner from Sears. Pretty nifty idea, actually. Keeps the dust out.

I used bags of frozen peas under my laptop until my cooler came in. Worked great

Ha ha! When my laptop’s fan broke, I had a set up like this. I propped it up on legos and ran a fan under it. I also used icepacks in the summer. It was the redneck laptop. Hey, I was poor!

That last one is pretty funny, they spend some time on that. I have to admit, I’ve had a fan down by my PC like that before.
I’ve seen more than my fair share of PCs like this. Sometimes you just have to turn to your fans for advice.
some of those are genuinely lolable
kudos
I had to do this before I upgraded my computer other wise it would shut off in the summer

The last photo is of my friend George’s computer. I had to do a double-take when I saw the photo because I recognized my car on the monitor! - ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/scottryder/510214979/in/set-72157600293749301/ )
Here’s the original photo if anyone wants to leave a comment for him:

Hey Fensty!
Do you have any pictures online of your computer?
I would enjoy seeing it.
